Summer 1990: While the world is making history and the 'wind of change' is blowing strongly, the shy Bakha from Kazakhstan has only one thought: Berta, the most beautiful girl he has ever seen. In retrospect, the likeable, dreamy teenager tells of his wild weeks: first love, first kiss, first jealousy, fights in the schoolyard, illegal concerts, a burglary, his strict father - and the sudden accidental death of the lead singer of the Soviet cult and favourite band "Kino". When Bakha doesn't know what to do, he tries to influence the situation with the help of hypnosis, which often ends tragicomically. Director and screenwriter Yana Skopina relies on nostalgic images in saturated colours that remain in the memory, such as the school's graduation ceremony and the decorated tram that Bakha's class enters in festive attire. Despite the local setting, SUMMER ENDS SOON works as a universal and charming coming-of-age story.
