Dmitry Tyurin’s debut film is based on the novella “Thirst”, published in 2002 by Andrei Gelasimov. It touches upon the trauma of the Chechen war: The protagonists are war veterans, who saved their friend Kostya’s life by pulling him from a burning tank. Nevertheless Kostya suffered serious burns and has been disfigured. His life is void of meaning: he quenches his thirst with vodka and draws sketches. Kostya is afraid of the world outside, as much as the world is afraid of him. Then, one of his army friends disappears, and he is called into action.
