Four women - four destinies. From East and West, from the nobility and the working class. They have one thing in common however: the search for happiness and love. All four encounter a man who attempts to deceive them, all four have a date with destiny. One of the earliest post-war films to deal with the issue of equal rights.

A law student, a West Berlin aristocrat, a dressmaker and a daughter of a civil servant. The seductive Filou Conny soon casts a spell over them all. Slatan Dudow paints the characters of his film in broad strokes and lends the plot an epic-like quality, the result being a film that proved a fascinating testimony of its time with its depiction of an ideal of the role women are to play in society. At least from today's perspective. Since when the film was originally released, it was criticised for its divergence from the canon of socialist realism.

What have we retained as a legacy of this to this day, and what does the current film business look like for women filmmakers? This event will also include the presentation of the e-book "She. Female directors of DEFA and their films", edited by Cornelia Klauß and Ralf Schenk, will take place.
