What could give more rise to optimism than the
tale of three youngsters who, combining natural
enthusiasm with a little financial capital, transform
a dilapidated former-socialist factory into
a profitable hi-tech company? And what could
give rise to greed if not the chance of snapping
us this very company by legal means with the
assistance of "old acquaintances"? As opposed
to former East Germany, where reunification
saw the growth of competition to the longestablished
patronage networks, in Poland these
have often remained in tact to the present day.
It would thus the seem that the world is not
just a stage ...

Ryszard Bugajski - – born 1943 in Warsaw. Completed his
directing studies at the Łódź National
Film School in 1973. His feature film
PRZESLUCHANIE (INTERROGATION, 1982),
though initially banned, premièred in 1989
and featured at the 1990 Cannes Film Festival.
Having lived in Canada for over a decade
he returned to Poland in 1995.
