Zitterinchen - that's the name of the little dog that is rescued from the river by the sisters Christine and Alma. The sisters live in a small cabin in the forest, whose roof is in urgent need of repair. The rather shy and painterly talented Alma applies for a job as court painter to Prince Philip and gets the job. When he sees a drawing of Alma's beautiful sister Christine, he immediately falls in love with her. He wants to marry her, which does not please the Baroness von Thalheim at all. She is facing financial ruin and wants to marry off her daughter to the prince. The Countess spins an intrigue and soon Christine is in great danger.
