Produced by five film schools, shot in five cities and made by five directors, Hives is an omnibus film composed of five intermingled stories with five characters that come from different social contexts, countries and cultures. On his way to Cologne a man is stuck in a traffic jam. He looks tired and bored when suddenly he falls in love with a woman in a car next to him. He decides to connect with her in an old-fashioned way: through a radio message. A business man loses his job but pretends to the whole family that he goes to work each morning until one day he appears accidentally on a TV screen. His wife and children watch him giving an interview during a protest in Zagreb. In Prague, a priest falls asleep while studying the Bible and when he wakes up, he can't move his hand. Not only is he worried that this might be a heart attack but the mass is in an hour. In London, an emigrant, full of optimism, gets on a bus where he meets a deeply upset man who might have committed a murder. A teacher in Jerusalem is wooed by her teenage student. Although she is in a long-term relationship, she feels bored and lonely. Whether it's a job, love, God or happiness, the characters' main motivation in this omnibus film is searching. It makes them change their lives and thus constructs their identity in the post-modern world.
