Trailer
New Year's Eve 1996/1997; in a village near Wrocław a young girl is raped and murdered. The media are in uproar, and demand that society catch the perpetrator and bring him to justice. The police soon arrest an uneducated young man with no permanent job. Soon afterwards he is sentenced to 25 years in prison.
The story of Tomek Komenda alternates between a reconstruction of what happened at the time, a description of an everyday existence in prison full of violence and humiliation, the story of a young policeman who searches for the truth and the struggle of Tomek's mother, who continues to believe in the innocence of her son (a masterful performance from Agata Kulesza, who will be familiar to audiences from the Oscar-winning film "Ida").
The film was hailed as Discovery of the Year at the 2020 Polish National Film Awards. In spite of worsening pandemic conditions, over 700,000 viewers headed to the cinemas to see it.
