Loan Shark
Munir finally wants to leave his dark past behind. Not even his worsening diabetes can deter the stoic provincial gangster from following through with his plan, or at least so he thinks: on the day of his retirement a backpack full of money is stolen from him, he accidentally commits a murder and ultimately finds himself no longer in control of his fate. In the hope of mercy, he sets off on one last mission, out into the vastness of the Vojvodina; radiant like the prairie of the American Midwest, inclusive of its battle-hardened individuals, the only differences being it's in a slightly more run-down state and the locals get around in classic Mercedes rather than on horseback. Shot last year in only two weeks during the first wave of the pandemic, Loan Shark is a crime story at once dark and full of atmosphere, set to an unusual backdrop. Highly entertaining and narrated in a most straightforward manner, the film stands out with its fantastically selected locations, as well as the formidable screen presence and rough charisma of the non-professional actor Dušan Petković in a lead role that is tailor-made for him.
