When Dorota finishes school there is no money for a prom dress, never mind any further schooling. Like everyone else she should go to the Czech Republic and earn money there, or at least that's what her father thinks. Dorota leaves her previous life and boyfriend Dodi behind in the Roma settlement in eastern Slovakia and sets out on a long journey to Aš, on the Czech-German border. There she finds a badly paid job in a textile factory and a new friend in Silvia. The girls soon lose even this lousy job however, at which point daring Silvia has the idea of hooking up with the older German men who populate the bars and nightclubs of Aš every evening.
Originally the director, with her keen sense of observation, wanted to shoot a documentary film and yet her decision to opt for a feature film, with its cast of convincing non-professional actors and the use of handheld and mobile cameras, saw her arguably achieve an even higher degree of authenticity.
