Trübe Wolken

Paul (Jonas Holdenrieder) is interested in strange things: abandoned buildings, whispered private conversations and the bags left behind by innocent people. He comes across as a decent, polite person, and is otherwise an unremarkable youngster. This opaque quality makes him the ideal projection surface for the longings of those around him: such as classmate Dala (Valerie Stoll), who falls in love with the silent outsider who always watches on from the darkness of the rows of seats whilst she acts on stage. Or his extroverted classmate Max (Max Schimmelpfennig), who believes that, in Paul, he has finally found someone who takes him seriously. In the project course the students are taught by art-loving teacher Bulwer (Devid Striesow). Only Paul catches his attention with a book of handwritten poems. Bulwer claims to recognise his own sensitivity in the boy and invites him to his home to work together on Paul's photo project.

One day however the police pay a visit to Paul's class. A boy who was new to school has been found dead in the forest, killed with a stone. Does Paul have anything to do with it? And how is the murder connected with the mysterious stone thrower? The further the investigation goes, the more the clouds darken.

This film from up-and-coming director Christian Schäfer received the “Best Young Actor” award for Jonas Holdenrieder's performance at this year's Max Ophüls Festival.
