Ztracený břeh

A dam was built near the southern Moravian town of Nové Mlýny in the 1970s and 1980s, as a consequence of which a village was flooded and ecologically valuable floodplain forests destroyed. Today passionate fishermen and their families have settled in wooden huts and caravans on the bank, for years now they have been a tight-knit community. Then a sudden mudslide and arbitrariness on the part of the authorities threaten to drive away these permanent campers. This sensitively captured documentary relates the fate of these people to the vanished landscape of old and the well-organised culture of leisure in the nearby aqua park today. The men have a penchant for drinking beer combined with laconic philosophising and accept their fate stoically. Věra, the only woman to feature, is still engaged in a struggle with her long-term marriage and knows the right song for every situation in life. CF
