In this enthralling Czech TV mini-series, director Petr Bebják revives the oppressive atmosphere of fear, distrust and political show trials characteristic of Czechoslovakia in the 1950s. Every little suspicion was capable of destroying whole lives back then. This is also felt by Stanislav who, despite his talent and initial successes, is excluded from his theatre group. The reason is his parents: his mother was considered to be a Nazi collaborator, his father fought for the Western powers during the war. Nevertheless Stanislav doesn't want to give up his big dream of the theatre and receives help from an unexpected source. He meets a stranger who shows him the path to success: Stanislav has to make a sacrifice to the system. It's not very difficult for him first time round; in fact, he hardly suspects whom he is dealing with. In a dramatic final act, however, he appears about to put his happiness in life at risk.
