Musician and author Kai-Uwe Kohlschmidt and his team traverse endless red plains, find strange artefacts, see mysterious light phenomena and meet people whose past lives overlap with that of Leichhardt. Shimmering landscapes, mystical chants and time and again the story of the old, white man who is said to have lived together with the Aborigines. Finally they reach the Aranda tribe, who have interesting tales to tell ... It is about more than the question of Leichhardt's whereabouts: what consequences did his discoveries have for the Aborigines? Or was his “Sorbian soul”, to which the film repeatedly returns, something they could relate to? Are the conquests of the “white man” perhaps not necessarily linked to colonialism? A multifaceted essay that incorporates myth, fact and a voyage of the imagination. GL
