Abschied von Horno

Leaving Horno

Gottfried Schwemmer
Germany, 2005, 100 Min

A long-term observation of a landmarked Sorbian village which falls victim to the consequences of lignite coalopencast mining.

Gottfried Schwemmer

The fate of Horno is symbolic of the disappearance of a village,
nature-orientated life as well as the endangered existence lead by the Sorbian language and culture.

This documentary film examines why not only the villagers, but in fact people all over Europe are campaigning for its preservation. Do they see in Horno a link to an earlier, archaic world? The disappearance of that which we perceive as home?
