Whilst visiting his relatives Maciek encounters little Grzes, who is hiding in a church. Secret passages lead to the pastor's organ music. Is this exit a way out? Magda, on the other hand, works for the mayor. She has to talk up the city to a delegation of Dutch investors and dissuade the residents of the slums from holding scheduled protests. She spends her time at elegant dinners rather than at the bedside of her daughter, who is in hospital with a temperature of 40 degrees. Marek Lechki sensitively devotes his attentions to people who, in the name of material and social advancement, are forced to sacrifice what is most important to them in life. With mystical worlds of imagery he delivers profound insight into their spiritual lives. In the process he paints a gloomy picture of a world in which you have to sacrifice your own freedom for financial security and the strong are usually able to exploit their advantaged position over the weak with impunity. Magda and Maciek only find refuge in their dreams. The only places where they can still be themselves with impunity. JJ
