Once celebrated as an achievement of civilisation in the newsreels, the home for mentally disadvantaged children at the gates of Belgrade has meanwhile long mutated into an outcast. Even if one in which the young people get their freedom. Miloš Jaćimović‘s camera work, carried out mainly by hand, gives the viewer the feeling, akin to a fly on the wall, of being present at a real event rather than a staged reality. Stylistically OASIS is reminiscent of the Dardenne brothers' films. Which enables one to experience first-hand the experience of young people who end up in such institutions. Ivan Ikić‘s dissecting, impartial gaze allows a deep sense of humanity to shine through and the protagonists to fully develop in all their complexity. JJ
