When her single mother is diagnosed with cancer Jasna is forced to temporarily leave her family in Germany. Once back at her Croatian place of birth old wounds and conflicts quickly come to determine everyday life with the unruly old woman. Days go by, soon weeks, during which Jasna is torn between the demands of her mother, memories of a difficult childhood and ultimately the question of her own roots: in the end do we resemble our parents and, if so, are we able to admit so to ourselves? Remorse, anger, inclusive of a hint of love and a chance for reconciliation; debut director Jure Pavlović records every emotion of this mother-daughter relationship, all the while ensuring Jasna remains the focus of the camera. A gentle, intimate film about a farewell, full of emotion and without the slightest sign of pathos. KS
