LUXUS. PROSTA HISTORIA

In the 1980s an artist collective called "Luxus" sprung up in Wrocław, the aim thereof being to put up Dadaist resistance to an otherwise monotonous life that offered few prospects. The artistic representation of the environment and everyday life was elevated to the highest principle, to be regarded as a luxury good. The affinity of the activism of the group with the political actions of the "Orange Alternative" can hardly be overlooked, and yet the social dynamics of the two artistic movements from Wrocław differed. Thirty years on a sumptuous dinner is to take place at the villa of one of the group's former members. The heroes of that era have meanwhile turned grey and a become a little more middle-class. From this perspective the history of a protest movement is reconstructed on the basis of eyewitness discussions and archive recordings, all the while accompanied by reflections on the subjects of art and politics.

LUXURY. A SIMPLE STORY is an encounter, both ironic and nostalgic, with art and its creators. Today, in a world of anything goes, it is hard to imagine how brave the language of art was forty years ago, not to mention the political significance it possessed. KM
