Somewhere in Lower Silesia: A godforsaken provincial town, separated from the rest of the world by a railroad barrier. Marcin is a car mechanic and loner. He dropped out of university to help his father. Now his father is dead. In this difficult time his girlfriend Kasia stands by his side: she helps him to cope with the formalities of the funeral, both tricky and tiresome as they are, and organise the funeral meal. And yet she has her own plans for life, plans she has kept secret for a long time: she wants to leave the cursed provinces and study in America and has in fact already been awarded a scholarship. Before Marcin has the chance to process this news the first mourners are already ringing at the front door.
The movie LOUDER THAN BOMBS is constructed so as to represent a race against time and is given energy by the vigour of its young cast, the acute eye of director Jolanta Dylewska and the heartfelt honesty of its narrative. KM
