Hungary, 2018, 11 Min

A short spin from which there is no return. Human trafficking is the third most lucrative business in the world after the trade in weapons and medicines. Thus, it is that a game of hide and seek amongst village children can meet an unpredictable end, with the active assistance of the parents no less.

In an impoverished Roma settlement children play hide-and-seek when suddenly a fancy SUV appears. In the car sit both a friendly young man and fellow villager Uncle Karcsi. Both invite the children to take a spin. The smaller boys cheer whilst, unbeknownst to them, a slightly older girl lies shackled in the boot ...

In only eleven minutes Mihály Schwechtje manages to draw attention to a major problem in poorer Hungarian regions – child and human trafficking – in this, a well-produced, socially-engaged work from the director of I HOPE YOU’LL DIE NEXT TIME :-) (FFC 2018) that is significantly more political than its current feature-length counterparts.
