There are films which move across different genres and the grotesque is the foundation of their narrative style. Stories from past times are ideal material for this. The young prince isn't thinking about marriage, but the moody and domineering mother keeps on insisting and looks for a wife for him – whatever the cost. The ugly princess is thinking of nothing else but a future husband – no matter which one, as long as it's a husband – and consequently drives the court and her father to despair. When the old queen sends her son to the land of the princess, the prince changes his clothes with those of his squire's on the way there and teaches the cheeky servant court etiquette. And somewhere there's a dragon lurking in the background as well ...
