Franka has no doubt that Richard deserves not the slightest mercy, after all her children, murdered by German soldiers, didn't receive any. Her neighbours don't share her sentiments however. Is one to regard the latter as mercy or naivety?
Back at the FFC 2017 director Mitriy Semenov-Aleynikov provided early evidence, with his short film THE SAME BLOOD, of a keen understanding of nuanced character and the elements that go to make up the suspense of evolving human relations. This year he returns with FRANKA, not only an unusual take on the Second World War from the perspective of the former Soviet Republics but also a work that confronts audiences with a complex moral dilemma.
