When the asphalt starts to smoulder, the only place to find relief is the swimming pool, and yet Aja’s mother continues to call every other hour to check if she is studying at the library. This is the least of her worries however: her boyfriend refuses to answer her calls, and when Aja finally comes to realise that their relationship is in tatters, she flies into an uncontrollable rage. A provocation on the streets sees her become the victim of a knife attack, after which she starts to toy with the thought of revenge …

This fast-moving and authentically captured low-budget production owes a large part of its success to the impressive leading actress, who tears across the charmingly-captured urban landscape of Belgrade through the emotional highs and lows. Kosta Đorđević’s second feature-length film portrays a stratum of society that cannot be grasped by reason alone and in which only those who shout loudest are destined to succeed. RH & BB
