Whilst Zagreb is overflowing with homeless people, this bon viveur drives an expensive red convertible. Only the radio presenter's voice still purrs from the light at the end of the tunnel. On the big screen blonde heroine Hrvojka Horvat fights with shield and flaming sword against the enemies of Croatia and yet what begins as a post-capitalist social comedy soon evolves into an action-packed horror film full of science-fiction elements: from outer space a group of elite water producers infect the country with a cannibal virus. Only Mićo remains untainted by the zombie epidemic. Appearing to be immune, he attempts to escape together with Hrvojka and two other comrades and yet the borders have long been secured. Shortly before a paranoid American General manages to wipe the epidemic-hit region from the map with a newly-invented bomb, Mićo and his patriotic friends discover an unusual cure for the virus, learning in the process that their blood isn't as purely Croatian as they had always imagined.
Employing dark humour this horror-comedy takes aim at nationalist arrogance and the prejudice that exists between the various ethnic groups in the former Yugoslavia, thus ensuring its popularity amongst audiences in the region. WMH

Predrag Ličina - born in 1972 in Zagreb, Croatia, where he studied film and television directing at the Academy of Dramatic Arts. He first wrote film reviews for various newspapers before switching to Croatian Television, where he worked as an assistant director producing numerous music videos as well as documentaries. This was followed by many commercials. THE LAST SERB IN CROATIA is his feature film debut.
