Monika is sad; she wants to go to her grandmother, but her parents tell her she moved to Hawaii. Three times already Monika has run away from home. Now a therapist is called in to help her. The neighbours’ boy Dawid mourns as well: for his sister Zuzia. While she was around, the family always celebrated the Day of Chocolate. Perhaps she is in Dawid’s tricolour cat as Monika maintains? Never mind, for one thing both children are certain about: the therapist is a witch who wants to steal their memories. Can the time jumper help them to make the impossible possible? Surely, for after all he can jump across time – yet only when he gets chocolate.
THE DAY OF CHOCOLATE won the ScripTeast Award in 2010, a project supporting young Central and Eastern European screenwriters. The decision to award the prize reasoned that the film tells with great sensitivity and lively imagination an enchanting story about a seemingly difficult topic: how children react to death. WMH
