One of the many ailing mines in Upper Silesia. Three women work on the night shift, responsible for cleaning the coal loading facility. The small workforce is facing the forthcoming merger with the neighbouring mine and job cuts are feared. The work is extremely hard and the workplace borders on the unbearable: Dirty locker rooms, stinking toilets, noisy machines. Shovels, scoops and brooms whirl up dust, cuts are eaten during the break and chats about life with a wink of humour make the whole thing more bearable – and then time to remove the coal residues again. Night in, night out. KM
