A group of Turkish men travel for sex tourism to Kyiv. There, the young Cemal – about to enter an arranged marriage – travels with the group for the first time, as it is family business. But he is different than the other men.
A beautiful woman, Sasha, has an affair with a rich Russian man who is married and forgets her birthday. And she wants to have children, while he does not. So she decides to amuse herself and conceive a child – and goes to the very bar where Cemal and his friends hang out. Without understanding each other, the two come closer – until they need to decide whether to break with their habitual life or return to normal.
LYUBY MENE (LOVE ME) relies on the casting, juxtaposing the subtle acting of Ushan Çakir with the enigmatic face of Viktoria Spesyvtseva. Set largely in Kiev, the film shows a city of contrasts, with modern apartment blocks, tourist spots and decrepit buildings where Sasha’s grandmother lives. The film is a Ukrainian-Turkish co-production and the second feature film by Maryna Er Gorbach, who studied in Kyiv before marrying scriptwriter Mehmet Bahadir Er and moving to Istanbul. Their joint debut film KARA KÖPEKLER HAVLARKEN (BLACK DOGS BARKING) was screened in Rotterdam in 2008 as well as in Cottbus in 2009.
