ZIELONA GÓRA EVENTS 1960 records a tense journey of the events surrounding the fateful day in May 1960 with eyewitness interviews, historian analysis, archival recordings and re-enacted scenes. The documentary produced by the regional newspaper Gazeta Lubuska provides insights into the political and social situation of this time. When displaced people from the former East of Poland arrived in Zielona Góra after the Second World War, the Communist leadership still believed that people from different parts of the country would not form a cohesive social unit and could be dangerous to the state. However, in the 1950s, Father Kazimierz Michalski quickly succeeded in uniting the city's people. His open-minded, anti-Communist positions, however, quickly attracted the resentment of Communist administration. And suddenly it was about the fight for freedom and the defense of the newly won faith. RB
