Izabelė is looking for an adoptive brother for her son who suffers from epilepsy. When she meets six-year-old Ilja in a children's home, she thinks she has found the missing family member. Her husband Liudas and Gailius, on the other hand, don't seem to be very enthusiastic: Ilja is scary to them, the little boy hardly speaks, behaves unpredictably, and is sometimes almost evil. Izabelė still wants to love him. Soon the family idyll crumbles – Liudas goes his own way, Gailius feels replaceable and Iljas detachment reflects Izabelės loneliness.
An overflowing old zinc tub, a v-neckline, the view through coloured glass windows – the sensitive camera makes the characters’ fears and desires tangible through details and unusual perspectives. Giedrė Beinoriūtė and her remarkably good ensemble succeeded in delivering an exciting film which is based on the eponymous novel by Laura Sintija Černiauskaitės and where unspoken questions linger for some time to come. Giedrė Beinoriūtė - born in 1976 in Vilnius, Lithuania. She graduated from the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, where she has been teaching script and direction since 2007. She has made several short fiction and non-fiction films, which have been successful nationally as well as internationally. BREATHING INTO MARBLE is her feature film debut. She is co-founder of the film studio "Monoklis".
