INT. KITCHEN. NIGHT.

INT. KITCHEN. NIGHT.

Ukraine, 2018, 4 Min

A nervous married couple, two radiant high school graduates, an ambiguous folk song and a cake – the table is set for a disaster. A surreal satire about traditional values and antiquated prejudices.

For many parents, meeting their child's partner for the first time can be a dramatic moment, especially if the partner does not meet their expectations. A bitter battle breaks out for the pale couple between hospitality, politeness and love for their child – and the deep-seated narrow-mindedness equating otherness with obscenity.

Arkasha Nepytaliuk wrote, filmed and produced this short film over the course of one day as a commission from the French Académie des César. He creates a dramatic view of an everyday family drama with deliberately theatrical staging and dream-like elements. DJ
