The strangers received cordially on an otherwise lonely courtyard are envoys from the nearby open-pit mine. In this film, based on Jurij Koch's play Landvermesser, Rublak offers a survey of an abandoned village, sacrificed on the search for coal. This footage was banned by the East German authorities in 1983, whereupon cameraman and editor Lutz Körner hid the material in his private archive, where step by step he was able to reconstruct the original film. This digital remastering was made possible with technical assistance from the Film University Babelsberg “Konrad Wolf”.
