The reclusive Dutch film critic Bob receives an unexpected visit from a long forgotten acquaintance from Eastern Europe. Having finally shaken off the obtrusively affectionate Duska, the protagonist is then overcome by a stultifying sense of loneliness and thus sets off to find him again. Back in the former Soviet Union Bob ends up in a remote Ukrainian village where he is incorporated into the making of an East European film. The director intertwines a sensitive, ironic portrait of a midlife crisis with transcendental motives and cryptic, surreal reflections.
