SEA OF DESIRES
Crimean flair, Muscovite!? Two friends mill around, in step. They want to travel to the sea, even if their taxi doesn't (says the driver who takes them to their fantasy kingdom, back in the days when Russians and Georgians were still happy to celebrate together). A buddy film that, though drawing obvious inspiration from Beckett, is set firmly within the post-Soviet tradition, somewhere between the absurdist humour of Daniil Kharms and the drunken psychogeography of Venedict Yerofeyev: a yearning to escape Moscow, to a sea of desires. Ultimately they turn around, not having made it beyond the front door.

Shota Gamisonia - born 1980 in Sukhumi, Abkhazia, Georgia. Moved to Moscow in 1993, later graduating from the Postgraduate School of Scriptwriters and Film Directors. Has since 2007 been attending advanced courses in scriptwriting and directing in Moscow.
