When a war erupts or somebody suddenly goes on a shooting spree we always ask ourselves where things went wrong, what could have been done differently, could the disaster have been averted? And every time our minds only come to rest when we are finally able to thread together a seemingly logical chain of causation that reduces our feeling of helplessness: the perpetrators had the wrong teachers, played the wrong computer games, were subject to an either excessively strict or lenient upbringing, the parents brought too much or too little money home, the state didn't take the right approach, it was God's will, or if none of those explanations will do, send him to the psychiatrist. Yet this is exactly what the director consistently, and with surprisingly simple means, sought to prevent with his cinema debut: the finding of quick remedies! Rather than narrate this story in an orderly fashion, from start to finish, he begins with the spreading of a stench of decay... Only later do we learn that somewhere down the road mother began to collect stray cats. Father returned a year later from the Afghan war and failed in readapting to civil life, at least until Artur slowly became convinced of the fact that he possesses supernatural powers. Ever more questions and no answer...
