With an almost ancient rage the director drives the characters through the plot. Bor, a mining town; disused mines lay like open wounds across a city landscape that has alienated the locals. These include the retired boxer turned bar owner King, troubled by a melancholy anger as love once again overwhelms him, kills him. Only later does he learn that "Rosa", who loves him just as desperately as he does her, is in fact the daughter of erstwhile seductress Ruzika. The plot begins shortly before Ruzika's release from prison and ends with a sacrifice for her daughter. The camera is also driven, only coming to rest when the protagonists lay their souls bare in heartbreaking laments of sorrow that give expression to their hopes, face to face with camera and audience. Full of pathos und a remarkable straightforwardness.

The director and script writer attempt the seemingly impossible: to unite in one film the form of a Greek tragedy and the emotion of a major opera. A powerful masterstroke!
