ŽENA SA SLOMLJENIM NOSEM

A young woman, whose nose has just been broken, flags down Gavrilo's taxi and jumps in with her baby. Moments later, on crossing a bridge, the same woman abruptly jumps out of the taxi and, leaving her baby behind, jumps over the railings and into the abyss. This attempted suicide unites the destinies of the three witnesses Gavriol, Anica and Biljana who in recent years have all been the indirect victims of social upheaval, violence and destruction, thus serving as an existential catalyst that connects and gives new focus to their emotionally "frozen" lives. The Bosnian war refugee and misanthrope Gavrilo is suddenly confronted with responsibility for the baby and begins to search Belgrade's hospitals for the woman with the broken nose: when he finally locates her he feels for the first time in his life what it means to be important to another. At the same time teacher Anica begins to process the tragic death of her son and the pharmacist Biljana decides that she doesn't want to marry her elegant fiancé and instead starts out on a search for her childhood sweetheart. The film paints a portrait of present-day Belgrade; an emotional landscape characterised by energies and emotions generated by years of war, destruction and hate, but also by the rediscovery of love and the overcoming of longstanding trauma. Against this background the personal destinies of the protagonists serve as metaphors for the state of a society as a whole.
