Jan spends his summer holidays on the freighter owned by his Uncle Fiete. Also on board is 13-year-old Nevena, who has fled from war-ravaged Bosnia in order to search for her brother in Hamburg. Initially pleased to have a change of company on the otherwise rather boring voyage, Jan gradually he begins to grasp the tragedy of Nevena’s situation. He decides to do his utmost to help her. A film that reminds us of the blackest chapter of recent history, and also of the way that children can rise to special challenges – and how much they need such tasks.
