Todor, an emigré Serb who owns an ancient fishing boat, gets by with smuggling cigarettes in the harbour of Trieste. One day he opens a wooden crate and discovers an unconscious woman, who is apparently being shipped to the west in order to be forced into prostitution. Todor now has to choose between loyalty to his sinister customer and his growing affection for the unknown woman. An artfully photographed and meditative portrait of two damaged souls at a place where Europe is in transit but has not given up hope of eventually finding itself.
