A country road in Kazakhstan. A small lorry with Kyrgyzi migrant labourers sitting in the back. But one of them is dead and urgently in need of burial. No problems to fear at the border, the driver assures them, since the men have the necessary papers: passports, death certificate. But then the border official demands the corpse’s migration card. And refuses to take a bribe. Appalled by this unexpected hitch, the grieving son of the deceased loses his nerve: “You let everything else through if the price is right: drugs, smugglers, weapons! So why should a dead man have a migration card?”
