Barking dogs, a huge metal gate. A young man is being released from prison. He throws away his prison togs on the journey back to his home village. Encounters a kissing couple and hears Kyrgyz hip-hop in the minibus. The barren landscape glides past outside the window, disturbed only by a wad of green chewing-gum stuck to the pane. Back home, his father dies, the clouds in the sky are like hopes being chased away by the wind. As tradition demands, he slaughters a horse and buries his father. The last we see of the dutiful son is the sight of him being led away, handcuffed once again.

Temirbek Birnazarow - born 1968 in Bishek. Studied at the Institute of Film and Theatre in Almaty from 1987 to 1993, and now directs films and plays.
