A murder has been perpetrated in the Bulgarian capital. The victim’s brother is soon the prime suspect, but he refuses to say anything when he is taken into custody His chief interrogator is a middle-aged female inspector. A restrained and patient workaholic, her work leaves her so little time for family life that her husband looks after their child. The entire film revolves around the endless psychological duel between the inspector and the suspect. Will she succeed in making him talk? Is there some bond between the two opponents, both of whose lives seem to be determined by loneliness and isolation? The director effortlessly negotiates the twists and turns of this labyrinthine criminal case, supported by a masterly portrayal from her female lead. The subject is not new for Triffonowa: her first documentary MURDER STORIES (1993), which dealt with convicted killers, was a plea against the death penalty then still in force in Bulgaria.
