Summer in Prague in the early 1960s. Three students of the famous FAMU film school – Karel (Czech), Artur (Slovakian) and Leke (Albanian) – travel to Český Šternberk, where they plan to shoot their graduation film. Transferring their unconventional lifestyle to the countryside of Bohemia, they soon meet a few extraordinary characters. The film centres on Leke, who has mixed feelings about his Albanian homeland. He falls madly in love with Mrs. Schneider, an older woman who is married to the chief of police.
The plot displays faint biographical parallels with the life of the director, who likewise studied at FAMU in the 1960s – alongside Jiři Menzel, Vera Chytilová and Jurai Jakubisko. Milkani made SMUTEK PANÍ ŠNAJDEROVÉ together with his son Eno, of whom it is the directorial debut.
