TIR, the blue tin-plate sign found on many lorries, stands for Transports Internationaux Routiers and is emblematic of the romance of cross-border, long-distance travel. Albert Fasulo's film of the same title is far removed from this picture-book conception however. Instead it accompanies the Croatian truck driver Branko on his expeditions across Europe, as he transports Italian nectarines to Nantes in France and returns with a load of pigs. His days are shaped by misleading announcements, endless waits and then sudden deadline pressure, punctuated by telephone calls with his wife and son; Family life is passing him by in his absence.
