A doll-maker goes about his work in the light of a kerosene lamp. But then the owner of his workshop installs electric light – and his dolls look less pretty in the harsh artificial light.

Roman Polański - born 1933 in Paris, of Jewish-Polish descent. After the end of the war he worked for radio and theatre and wrote radio plays for children. He studied directing at PWSFTViT in Łódż from 1954 to 1959, emigrated to the USA in the 1960s and now lives in France and Poland.
