Finally a chance to change something: A group of young architects are given the task of brightening up a residential area full of unsightly tower blocks. With ideas and energy aplenty they throw themselves into the undertaking in the hope of being able to put a halt to the decay. The problems however are neverending and persist until the project fails somewhat miserably. The film, a portrayal of a generation that felt betrayed and a country on the verge of ruin, was at the time a sensation, for no one had yet dare describe with such openness and honesty just how frustrated young people in the GDR had become.
