Without having been asked her opinion on the matter, Marion is obliged to accompany her parents on their adventurous flight from East to West Berlin via Hungary in the summer of 1989. On November 9 however, before they have the chance to settle into their new surroundings, the Berlin Wall falls. Now the old mixes with the new and, caught up in the middle of the resulting social upheavel, it's not only Marion who struggles to adapt.
In this first all-German film production after the opening of the inter-German border questions are posed, from a children's perspective, that in hindsight have proved themselves to be remarkably farsighted.
