In Albanian the name Bota translates as
“the world”. The beach bar of the same name
however is located in a soulless no man‘s land,
somewhere between the mainland and the
sea; In fact it was here that political prisoners
were detained during the Communist period.
Waitress Juli works for her cousin Ben, who
has become involved with the local Mafi a.
An Italian construction company intends
to construct a new highway through this
withered marshland, time and again however
they stumble across the mortal remains of the
victims of political repression. The film‘s main
protagonist is ultimately also confronted with
the painful truth about her deceased mother
and her family.
