A summer's day on the Black Sea beach of Vakfıkebir in northern Turkey: children take their first strokes in the water, fishermen repair their nets. A few hundred metres away however trucks are pouring immense lumps of rock into the sea, paving the way for the construction of a four-lane freeway directly by the waterfront, approved in 2007. This massive undertaking is causing not only the disappearance of beaches, but also of the way of life and identity of a region as a whole.
This documentary proved a cause for irritation in its country of production. A showing in İnebolu, one of the communities affected by the construction work, was cut short by the local mayor.
