The central station of Mariupol, a city in the east of the Ukraine, was once the scene of great hustle and bustle. Today the waiting room on the first floor is locked, with only the station employees enjoying access that simultaneously allows them to behold the mosaic on display there. Created by artists Konstantinov and Kuzminkov, the monumental work of art, of which there were once twenty-five in Mariupol, is apparently UNESCO-listed. A vestige from Soviet times, during which the proletariat was revered and art promoted the cause of socialism. KT
