A mother in war-torn Mariupol shoots videos for her daughter in distant Kiev, unable as she is to reach her by phone. The military conflict in the Ukraine remains near and yet so far in this sequence of private videos that take in landscapes, animals, and missiles striking in the distance.

Ma (Mama) lives in a recently constructed prefab estate that she captures in detail, giving a sense of its now eerie abandonment. Music can be heard to her left, says Mama, whilst the sound of machinegun fire emanates from the right. She yearns for normality, unable as she is to suppress her fear of the ubiquitous battles and street checkpoints. Nevertheless the author of these videos manages to find a niche for herself together with raven Karlovitsch and her cat Elsa, as she wrests a private life from the war waging around her in this film on modern communication via social media and living with fear.
